On the Acceptance of My Episcopal Nomination

Addressed to Anglican Diocese of the Emmaus Way

Greetings in the Name of our Lord Jesus Christ!

I am writing this letter to inform you, the clergy, and the people of the Anglican Diocese of the Emmaus Way, that I have formally accepted my nomination to become your Bishop. I am looking forward to beginning my formation process under the Most Reverend Archbishop Raul Toro, Jr., Presiding Bishop of the Anglican Free Communion International.

As we begin the transition process leading into my Episcopal Ordination and Consecration, which will take place September 2, 2023, in Niles, Ohio, you will notice staffing changes within the diocese, some of which have already taken place. I would like you to take note of some of these changes — first and foremost the Canon to the Bishop Elect, which upon my consecration will formally become Canon to the Ordinary. I have appointed the Very Reverend Kenneth J. Nelan to serve in this role. I have asked the Very Reverend Rob Edwards to replace Fr. Kenn as the Canon for Vocations, a role that I have no doubt Fr. Rob will give 110% to.

As we move forward in this diocese, I am making the commitment that we will remain an open and affirming diocese, without compromising our orthodoxy. As part of the One, Holy, Catholic, and Apostolic Church, there are certain things that are non-negotiable, and I am fully committed to "guard the faith" as required by my office. I am also fully committed to strengthening our partnerships and involvement within the Anglican Free Communion International, both in the provincial United States and internationally with our sisters and brothers throughout the Communion. We are part of something much larger than our diocese, and I am looking forward to representing the people of the diocese to the Communion.

Heather, the kids, and I covet your prayers as we move into this new vocation. We are looking forward to spending time with you in September and as we begin our travels around the diocese.

Your Brother in Christ, + Brent Edward Whetstone
